Luanda: Angola's national basketball team, which has already qualified to host Afrobasket 2025, can now wait for its opponent after the 16 teams for the event were finalized following the conclusion of the qualifying rounds.
According to Angola Press News Agency, at least 20 national teams played a total of 59 games in three qualifying rounds held across six African cities. The qualifying rounds began in February 2024 with the first window in Monastir, Tunisia, and Cairo, Egypt. The second round was conducted in Dakar, Senegal, while the third and final round took place in Antananarivo, Rabat, and Tripoli in February.
Of the 20 teams that participated in the qualifiers, Central African Republic, Gabon, Kenya, and Morocco were eliminated, while 16 teams secured their spots for the final stage. On Sunday, Guinea and Rwanda clinched the last two tickets to this year's African finals, which will be hosted in the Angolan cities of Luanda, Mo§ambique, Huila, and Benguela.
The complete list of teams qualified for Afrobasket includes Angola (host), Cameroon, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Guinea, Libya, Madagascar, Mali, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Sudan, Tunisia, and Uganda.
