Limpopo Police Issue Stern Warning After Kidnapping and Gang Rape of Teenager

Polokwane—The Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has issued a stern warning against perpetrators of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) following the alleged kidnapping and rape of a 15-year-old girl in the Vhembe district.

According to a new release by South African Police Service, one suspect has been arrested in connection to the incident, and an investigation is underway to apprehend the remaining two suspects. The victim was allegedly hit by a crutch walking stick, losing consciousness, and subsequently raped by the suspects.

The police have opened three counts of rape and kidnapping, and the case has been transferred to the Makhado FCS Unit for further investigation. Lieutenant General Hadebe urged the community to cooperate in the fight against GBV, stating that the issue has reached a critical point. The 24-year-old suspect is expected to appear before Dzanani Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 24 October 2023.
