Likuyani MP Urges Residents to Capitalize on Kakamega County Industrial Park Opportunities


LIKUYANI, Kenya – Innocent Mugabe, the Member of Parliament for Likuyani, is encouraging local residents to seize the business opportunities presented by the upcoming Kakamega County Aggregation and Industrial Park. The park, which is under construction in his constituency, is expected to significantly boost the area’s economic prospects.



According to Kenya News Agency, who spoke at a fundraising event in Matisi village, the park’s establishment is a significant economic milestone for Likuyani. He emphasized the importance of the local community being prepared to take full advantage of the opportunities it will offer. Mugabe highlighted his role in ensuring the park’s location in Likuyani, stating that he lobbied passionately for it despite initial plans to establish it in Mumias.



The MP expressed optimism about the park’s potential impact, noting that it will attract investors, establish factories, and offer employment opportunities to the youth. It will also serve as a resource for farmers, providing guidance on effective farming practices and profitable crops. Mugabe stressed that these developments would lead to economic empowerment and broader development in the constituency.



Additionally, Mugabe disclosed plans to establish a textile factory in the Soy area of Likuyani ward, aimed at creating further job and business opportunities for locals. He shared his experiences of facilitating employment for youths in textile factories elsewhere in the country, expressing enthusiasm about bringing such opportunities closer to home.



The construction of the Kakamega County Aggregation and Industrial Park, which began in August, was inaugurated by President Dr. William Ruto in the Sinoko area of Likuyani constituency. The President announced that the initiative is expected to create over 30,000 jobs and stimulate regional growth.



The Kenyan government is investing in the construction of aggregation and industrial parks across all 47 counties, with a budget of Sh500 million for each park. Former Trade and Industrialization Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria revealed that the funding for these projects is being equally shared between the national and county governments. The construction process is phased, prioritizing counties that have their financial allocations ready.
