Libya stresses support for initiatives to enhance image of Arabs

TRIPOLI— Libyan Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs Walid Al-Lafi stressed Libya’s support for Arab initiatives that aim to enhance the image of Arabs.

“The State of Libya renews its support for Arab initiatives to enhance the image of the Arabs in the face of campaigns targeting our identity,” Al-Lafi said here during a consultative meeting of Arab information ministers, which kicked off on Saturday at the end of the “Tripoli the Capital of Arab Media 2022” event.

“In light of the rapid technological development, cooperation between Arab countries in media and journalism has become a more important requirement than before,” the Libyan official said.

Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, head of the Media and Communication Sector of the League of Arab States, said the Council of Arab Information Ministers is keen to keep media cooperation high on its agenda.

Khattabi said during the meeting that the Capital of Arab Media project is one of the most prominent initiatives adopted by the council in 2016, with the aim of shedding light on national media work in Arab states and promoting inter-Arab media cooperation.

“The media, in all its forms, has become an effective tool for shaping public opinion and a universal means for dialogue, rapprochement and understanding between different cultures,” he said.

The Council of Arab Information Ministers had announced in its previous session that Lebanon’s Beirut would be chosen as the “Capital of Arab Media” for year 2023.
