Léo’s “Le Rocher Cluster” Kicks Off Peace Cup for Youth Teams

Ouagadougou: The Secretary General of the Sissili Province, Baowinsida Bingo, representing the High Commissioner, presided over the official launch of the 'Peace Cup' on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Zio Abdoulaye Municipal Stadium in Léo. Initiated by the Le Rocher Cluster with the support of Compassion International, this competition brings together 22 sports teams around the values of social cohesion and youth protection. According to Burkina Information Agency, this first edition of the "Peace Cup" will take place from March 28 to May 30, 2026, under the banner of unity. This initiative, supported by development centers for children and young people, aims to use sport as a lever for education and civic responsibility. The provincial secretary-general, Baowinsida Bingo, praised the initiative, saying it aligns perfectly with national priorities. "This tournament is a call to every citizen and every young person to play their part in building a peaceful society," he declared, while urging the players t o be disciplined and fair. For the religious patron, Pastor Elie Ouédraogo, provincial president of the Federation of Evangelical Churches and Missions (FEME), the Church is thus reaffirming its social role. Citing sacred texts, he emphasized that this tournament should be a "school of moral formation" to make young people into builders of peace. For his part, Saydou Yago, representing the president of the special delegation (PDS) of Léo, emphasized the social importance of this sporting event. According to him, the development of local youth necessarily involves combating scourges such as alcoholism, drug use, and early marriage of young girls. The launch was also marked by the blessings of His Majesty Lio-Pio Dan-Zwe, chief of the canton of Léo and co-sponsor of the event, who expressed wishes for the smooth running of the competition. In the opening match, the crowd at the municipal stadium witnessed a clash between FC Nouvelle and FC Boudeun. At the final whistle, FC Nouvelle emerged victorious with a score of 2-1.
