Léo — In a collaborative effort to strengthen land management, the General Directorate of Land, Training and Organization of the Rural World (Dgfomr), in partnership with the town hall of Léo, conducted a training session on the development of local land charters on Friday, October 20, 2023.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the training was designed to assist in the formulation of local land charters within the commune of Léo. The session targeted members of the initiative committee involved in the development of municipal land charters, focusing on the processes and tools necessary for effective charter creation.

The initiative committee members, comprising local stakeholders who utilize the land resources governed by these charters, were briefed on several key areas during the capacity building workshop. The program included education on the legal foundations of local land charters, the phases involved in developing these charters, and the tools required for their implementation.

The participants received detailed presentations from Saydou Konaté and Nacanabo Madi of the Dgfomr, covering the action plans for the implementation of the charters and delineating their roles within this framework. The interactive format of the workshop allowed for extensive plenary discussions, ensuring that the concerns and queries of all attendees were addressed.

Through group discussions, municipal stakeholders deliberated on the nuances of land transactions governed by the charters, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.

The culmination of the event saw the formulation of a roadmap and action plans for the future development of local land charters, setting a clear path forward for all involved.

Saydou Yago, the 1st vice-president of the special delegation of Léo, took the opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of the Food System Resilience Program in West Africa – Burkina Faso component (PRSA-BF) and the Dgfomr for their financial and technical support in this initiative.

In his concluding remarks, Yago called upon the workshop participants to serve as communicative liaisons within their home communities, ensuring the smooth continuation of the activities related to the development process and tools for local land charters, ultimately aiming to benefit the commune of Léo.
