Law Society of Kenya Initiates Annual Free Legal Awareness Week in Machakos

Machakos – The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has commenced its annual free legal awareness week, targeting residents of Machakos and its South Eastern branch.

According to a new release by Kenya News Agency, the LSK Chairman for the South Eastern branch, the initiative aims to provide free legal aid to residents of Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Kajiado, and Garissa Counties.

During a press conference at the Machakos law courts, Chairman Makau Mutua urged all residents to take advantage of the free services, stating this annual event serves as a way for the legal community to give back to society. Mutua highlighted that while legal aid is being offered, some cases could be resolved out of court through mediation.

Machakos Lands and Environment Court Judge Annet Nyukuri also spoke at the event. She assured residents that the lawyers participating in the free legal aid program are highly qualified and encouraged people to utilize their services. Judge Nyukuri emphasized the potential for alternative justice systems, including arbitration, to resolve certain issues without the need for court intervention.

She further advised residents unable to secure legal services or those with missing case files to write to the ombudsman, who would then forward the case to the appropriate judges.
