ACCRA – The Ghana Premier League witnessed a flurry of drama and upsets in week six, as newly promoted Nations FC pulled off a late comeback to secure a 2-2 draw with Asante Kotoko. At the same time, Accra Hearts of Oak’s struggles persisted with a goalless draw against FC Samartex 1996.
According to a new release by the Ghana News Agency, Amidou Diarra of Nations FC netted a penalty during second-half added time to level the score after Steven Mukwala and Michael Dwamena had given Asante Kotoko a 2-1 lead.
Accra Hearts of Oak, who have scored only one goal this season, settled for a 0-0 draw against FC Samartex 1996. The result leaves the Phobians with a total of five points, positioning them in the bottom half of the league table.
In other matches, despite recently qualifying for the CAF Champions League group stages, Medeama couldn’t escape domestic troubles, losing 2-1 to Dreams FC. Great Olympics, too, suffered their first defeat of the season, falling 3-1 to Aduana Stars at Nana Agyeman Badu Park. Goals by Isaac Mintah and Emmanuel Gyamfi secured the win for Aduana Stars.
Nsoatreman FC continued their solid home form with a 2-0 victory over Legon Cities, thanks to goals from Mohammed Abdul Rahman and Manaf Umar. Meanwhile, Bechem United claimed their second win of the season with a 2-0 triumph over Berekum Chelsea at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park, courtesy of goals from Augustine Okrah and Cephas Manteye.
Real Tamale United began week six on a high note, defeating Accra Lions 3-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium. Bofoakwa Tano managed to secure an away point against Karela United, as both teams failed to find the back of the net.
