Landslide in Indonesia’s West Sulawesi Claims 4 Lives, Injuring 4 Others

Mamuju: At least four people died, and four others were severely injured in a landslide in Mamuju regency, Indonesia's West Sulawesi province, according to the country's disaster authority on Monday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the head of the Mamuju regional disaster mitigation agency, Taslim Sukirno, reported that the landslide occurred in Mamunyu village at around 11:15 p.m. local time on Sunday following heavy rain that persisted for over eight hours.

The authority's preliminary report indicated that among the deceased was a one-month-old infant. The landslide also resulted in the burial of two houses in the affected area.

Taslim Sukirno stated that all victims had been evacuated using stretchers and ambulances. The injured individuals are currently receiving intensive care at the Mamuju district hospital.

The official noted that the government had deployed personnel for evacuation efforts, but the process faced challenges due to landslide debris and fallen trees blocking access routes.
