COMOÉ – A long-standing land conflict between the villages of Sitiéna and Djongolo in the Banfora commune escalated into violence on Friday, leading to the deaths of two individuals.
According to Burkina Information Agency, The conflict, which has been ongoing for nearly a decade over agricultural land, saw renewed clashes on Friday afternoon. Despite numerous attempts at mediation and a pending court case that prohibits the use of the disputed land, tensions flared when residents suspected each other of attempting to use the land. Local police responded quickly to the scene, which prevented further escalation of violence. One individual died at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries later that night at the Banfora CHR hospital.
