Nanyuki, Kenya – Tracy Wangari, the top-performing student in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in Laikipia County, has expressed her desire to attend Kenya High School for her secondary education. Wangari, who was a student at Laikipia Airbase Primary School, scored an impressive 417 marks out of a possible 500 in the KCPE.
According to Kenya News Agency, where Wangari spoke during a ceremony celebrating pupils’ transition from primary to secondary education, she attributed her success to hard work, good time management, and support from her teachers and parents. She also expressed her long-term aspiration to become a Neurosurgeon after completing her secondary education and urged her peers to remain focused on their dreams.
Peter Wainaina Njenga, Wangari’s father and a teacher at Thingithu Secondary School, described his daughter as a disciplined and hardworking child who upheld the family tradition of academic excellence. He expressed pride in her achievements and advised her to continue her hard work and avoid negative influences to realize her dream of becoming a surgeon. He also shared that Wangari’s elder siblings had achieved commendable KCPE scores of 410 and 418 marks in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
David Mugambi, the head teacher of Laikipia Airbase Primary School, praised Wangari’s consistent performance since joining the school. He shared that she had always ranked first or second in her class, showing deep commitment to her studies. Mugambi noted that Wangari’s achievement of 417 marks brought immense pride to the school.
Mugambi further highlighted that approximately 12 candidates from Laikipia Airbase Primary School scored over 400 marks in the KCPE. He thanked all partners for their support in making the school, located within the army unit, a success. The school emerged as the best in the county, with over 20 candidates scoring 390 marks and above.
Wangari’s achievement and her aspiration to join Kenya High School and pursue a career in neurosurgery reflect the high academic standards and aspirations among students in Laikipia County.
