Labor Inspectorate Uncovers Over 3,000 Violations Across Malanje

MALANJE: The General Labor Inspectorate (IGT) has identified 3,826 labor violations within 946 public and private companies in Malanje this year. The infractions range from failing to register employees with social security to imposing excessive working hours, withholding wages, unfair dismissals, and neglecting necessary medical and occupational examinations.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the most affected sectors include commerce with 1,467 offenses, manufacturing and mining with 870, hotels accounting for 580 violations, followed by services with 412, construction and public works with 259, finance with 116, and agriculture with 53, among others. These findings highlight widespread non-compliance across various industries.

Fernando Canda, head of the provincial services of the IGT, stated that the violations were uncovered through rigorous inspections, which led to the issuance of 133 fines amounting to 12.9 million kwanzas. The inspectorate’s efforts aim to enforce labor laws and ensure fair treatment of workers across the region.

Canda further reported that the inspectorate received 278 requests for mediation in labor disputes this year. Out of these, 213 cases were resolved in favor of the workers, resulting in compensation totaling 9.6 million kwanzas. Additionally, 50 declarations of inability to work were issued, with 15 disputes still under mediation. The inspectorate’s actions underscore its commitment to upholding labor rights and addressing grievances effectively.
