Addis Ababa: Labor and Skills Minister Muferihat Kamil stressed the need for unifying hands to realize Ethiopia’s development ambitions in various spheres. A panel discussion and photo exhibition, organized by the Ethiopian Press Agency, was held under the theme: ‘Skill for Ethiopia,’ today at the TVET Institute. Moderating the panel, Minister Muferihat stated that Ethiopia’s progress depends on collective effort rather than external solutions.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Muferihat further elaborated that: ‘It is easy to talk about Ethiopia, but it needs unified hands to achieve what the country wants to achieve.’ She added, ‘We don’t buy a nation, we rather build it.’ The minister also referenced February’s historical significance, stating, our fathers and foremothers did not only secure victory for the sovereignty of Ethiopia, we rather defeated perspective.
Presenting a paper on government policies, State Minister of Labor and Skills, Teshale Berecha revealed the country is also zooming in on ski
lls’ development and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) as part of its broader strategy to modernize the economy. Teshale also reflected on the readiness of the government to introduce significant policy reforms to support the sector, aiming to equip its youth with the skills needed for sustainable development.
The government is also planning to turbocharge the private sector and enhance public-private partnerships to drive this transformative agenda. Ethiopia needs to replicate the economic success seen in many Asian countries, where TVET has played a key role in fostering rapid economic growth, he added. With the right training and resources, he stated that young Ethiopians will be better equipped to meet the demands of an evolving job market, thus contributing to the nation’s long-term growth and prosperity.
The discussion focused on the role of skills and cooperation in advancing Ethiopia’s development.
