Kunene: The first round of the Kunene Regional Football Association (KUFNA) tournament has concluded on a high note, with strong performances on and off the field signalling a promising season ahead for football in the region.

According to Namibia Press Agency, KUFNA Chairperson Marshall Gomeb expressed that the opening phase of the league was both successful and encouraging, particularly after a long break from competitive football. "Overall performance on and off the field was impressive, especially considering that competitive football had not been played since last year," he said. He praised the role of home teams in ensuring the smooth running of fixtures across host towns, noting that "most of the logistics were handled by the home teams, and they executed their responsibilities well."

One of the major highlights of the season has been the sponsorship of all 12 participating teams with new jerseys, which has boosted morale among players and supporters alike. Gomeb also commended the strong turnout of spectators across the region, emphasising football's role in bringing communities together. "The atmosphere in all host towns was positive, with strong spectator support, showing how much football means to the Kunene Region," he added.

While minor logistical and coordination challenges were experienced during the opening round, Gomeb said these were quickly resolved through teamwork and communication. "These were addressed through close cooperation with the home teams and continuous communication with match officials," he explained, noting that early engagement with referees ensured professionalism and fairness on the field.

As the league prepares for the next stage, Gomeb expressed confidence in the teams and officials. "Player discipline has been outstanding, and their hunger to play football was clearly visible," he said. On the standings, Robber Chanties FC have taken an early lead with six points, followed by Okarindi Komutati FC, !Ugab FC, Young Eagles FC, and Kunene NamPol FC, all tied on four points.
