Boussé: Rural development stakeholders in Kourwéogo province are uniting efforts to ensure a successful reforestation campaign. The High Commissioner of Kourwéogo province, Mahamadi Congo, chaired a provincial consultation on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in Boussé, focusing on reforestation. This meeting reviewed the 2024 campaign and laid the groundwork for the 2025 initiative.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the provincial director of Water and Forests, Tasséré Ouédraogo, reported that the previous campaign resulted in the planting of 146,175 plants with a success rate of 65%. Efforts included reforesting 674.75 hectares, 9,370 linear meters of hedgerows, and 2,800 meters of alignment plantings, impacting land restoration, forest enrichment, riverbank protection, and public space beautification.
Despite these results, Mr. Ouédraogo emphasized the need for enhanced efforts due to numerous areas requiring restoration. He advocated for resource pooling among stakeholders combating desertification.

toring officer Jean Jacques T. Bahiré highlighted the achievements of the Great Green Wall for the Sahara and the Sahel Initiative (IGMVSS) in soil restoration. He noted the ongoing Ecosystem Restoration Project in the Central Plateau region (PRE-PCL), which operates in Laye, Toéghin, Niou, and Boussé municipalities, focusing on land degradation reversal, income improvement through non-timber forest products, and IGMRVSS governance consolidation.
The stakeholders agreed to plant 300,000 plants for the 2025 campaign, distributing 60,000 per municipality. High Commissioner Mahamadi Congo praised community efforts and announced Niou as the host for the regional National Tree Day (JNA) commemoration, with a two-hectare plot prepared for the event.
Mr. Congo commended stakeholder commitment and underscored the importance of public awareness to ensure adherence to national desertification combat guidelines and to make the 2025 JNA a success in Kourwéogo.
