Boussé: The High Commissioner of the Kourwéogo province, Siaka Barro, invited on Friday, November 15, 2024, in Boussé, the parents of children to actively participate in the polio vaccination campaign. It was in the presence of the customary and religious authorities of the locality.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the launching ceremony of the polio response campaign, which took place at the CSPS of sector 2 Boussé, was marked by the collection of commitment from the populations and the symbolic administration of the vaccine by the authorities to the target groups present. The High Commissioner of Kourwéogo province, Diaka Barro, invited administrative, religious, and customary authorities, as well as parents of children, to get involved and actively participate in achieving the objectives of the campaign.

For the head physician of the Boussé health district, Adeline Dabiré/Salou, this edition, coupled with vitamin A supplementation, deworming, and malnutrition screening, is scheduled to take plac
e from November 15 to 18, 2024, throughout the province. According to her, the campaign will target children aged 0 to 5, regardless of their vaccination status.

Highlighting the importance of this vaccination outing, Dr. Dabiré indicated that the activity aims to protect children in the targeted age group, who are the most vulnerable, to break the chain of transmission by reducing the capacity of the poliovirus to infect other children. “The success of this added mass vaccination requires the full commitment of the community in order to overcome any possible reluctance and thus allow the vaccinators to reach all targets,” said the head doctor of the Boussé health district.

The High Commissioner of Kourwéogo province called for mobilization and noted that prevention remains the only way to fight polio. “A fatal disease whose after-effects, if escaped, can lead to lifelong motor disabilities in the individual,” explained the high commissioner. Siaka Barro hoped that the activity would not experience any case
s of refusal in the province.
