Kourweogo: The provincial director in charge of Primary Education in Kourweogo, Jachinthe Ky, presided over a municipal forum dedicated to schools with gardens and school fields, alongside the launch of the Artistic and Cultural Month in the Basic Education District of Niou. This event was organized for school directors and social partners.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the forum discussions focused on evaluating school gardens, identifying challenges, and proposing solutions. It aimed to strengthen the capacity of school administrators and school board presidents regarding the guidelines and objectives for the Arts and Culture Month, scheduled from June 15 to July 15, 2026. This initiative aligns with the national movement to promote local culture and values within schools.
Inspector Salif Diassibo Lompo, Head of the Niou Basic Education District, welcomed the forum, highlighting the educational value of school gardens. He noted that these gardens serve as "open-air classrooms," offering students hands-on learning experiences that foster a sense of effort, responsibility, and contribute to food security. Additionally, Lompo emphasized the role of the Artistic and Cultural Month in providing a well-rounded education by nurturing creativity and cultural values in students.
Provincial director Jachinthe Ky underscored the importance of school gardens and the MAC in developing student talents, promoting cultural heritage, and strengthening arts education. He emphasized that education should cultivate well-rounded, creative citizens who appreciate their cultural identity. Ky encouraged school principals and educational advisors to implement the forum's recommendations to enhance the impact of school garden initiatives.
During the forum, Nabyoure Sawadogo, the provincial head of school canteens, presented a report on school gardens and fields, outlining challenges and solutions. Lassane Ouedraogo and Mahamoudou Sawadogo from the provincial directorate's sports and cultural activities office briefed participants on the guidelines and practical organizational procedures of the MAC.
The provincial director highlighted that the success of this initiative depends on a participatory, inclusive, and decentralized approach, involving all educational, cultural, and community stakeholders.
