Kourittenga’s Public Transport Transformation: SOTRACO Unveils New Bus Network

Koupela: The general management of the Public Transport Company (SOTRACO) presented, this Friday, November 21, 2025 in Koupela, the future bus network planned for the province of Kourittenga to the authorities and mobility stakeholders. In the dynamic of the deployment of the public transport company (SOTRACO), the Nakambe region and the Kourittenga province will benefit from the establishment of a Bus Network Depot (DRB).

According to Burkina Information Agency, the general management of SOTRACO invited local authorities and stakeholders to Koupela to discover and appreciate the main features of the project, so that it meets the needs of the population. It appears that there are essentially four inter-communal lines planned from Koupela which are, the Koupela-Tenkodogo line of 44.6 km with 26 stops, the Koupela-Zorgho line of 30.4 km with 17 stops, the Koupela-Pouytenga line of 15.8 km with 16 stops, and the Koupela-Gounghin line of 33.1 km with 15 stops.

SOTRACO's general manager, Drissa Sawadogo, announced that around ten modern buses with 45 seats and 60 standing places, adapted to the needs of disabled and elderly people, will be put into circulation by January 2026. "With the information and enthusiasm we have, we are absolutely certain that the people are waiting for this. That is why we are also moving quickly to operationalize the network because the need is there," he said.

The discussions emphasized the necessity for close collaboration between all parties involved to ensure the project's success and user satisfaction. "We will support the management of SOTRACO through land mobilization. We will also raise awareness among our people about the upcoming arrival and proper use of these buses," reassured the High Commissioner of the Kourittenga province, Moctar Ilboudo.

This project is part of a national initiative, with the acquisition of 530 buses by SOTRACO financed by the State as part of the Presidential Initiative for Quality Education (IPEQ). The initiative aims to strengthen the supply of urban mobility and support education by facilitating the mobility of pupils and students.
