Kourittenga Launches Monthly Civil-Military Cross-Country Race to Foster Unity


KOUPÉLA—In a spirited response to the government’s call for increased national solidarity, the Kourittenga province initiated a popular cross-country race combined with an aerobics session on Thursday, September 5, 2024, aimed at promoting closer ties between civilians, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).



According to Burkina Information Agency, Sandaogo Yaogo, the provincial director in charge of Sport, emphasized that the event serves as a crucial platform for fostering collaboration and camaraderie among the defense forces and civilian populations. He highlighted the importance of sport in cultivating solidarity and social cohesion, particularly during challenging times marked by insecurity.



The High Commissioner of Kourittenga province, Moctar Ilboudo, commended the diverse groups for their participation and noted the government’s commitment to reclaiming territories affected by conflict. He announced that such events would be held monthly, on every Thursday, to ensure ongoing interaction among the FDS, VDP, and civilian participants, thereby strengthening community bonds and mutual understanding.



Ilboudo stressed that these gatherings are vital for building frank and healthy collaborations and are integral in the broader strategy to combat terrorism effectively within the region. The initiative marks a significant step in using sport as a bridge for peace and resilience in Kourittenga.
