Kourittenga: The Archdiocese of Koup©la celebrated the mime of the arrival of the White Fathers in 1900 in Koup©la on Friday, January 17, 2025, marking the Jubilee of 125 years of evangelization. The first White Fathers arrived in the 1900s in Roambga, a village located on the road to Ouagadougou, before settling in Binatenga.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event included a prayer march, animated by songs, where the Catholic faithful of the archdiocese of Koup©la and visitors from other areas gathered to commemorate the arrival of the White Fathers and the history of evangelization in Koup©la. Father Eugenio from Koudougou expressed his gratitude for being part of the jubilee, stating it was an honor to be associated with the celebration and the recognition of evangelization efforts from 125 years ago.
The Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Koup©la, Father Jean Didier Oubda, expressed satisfaction with the turnout for the celebration. He noted that the large gathering exceeded expectations and saw it as a sign of divine grace accompanying their mission. He emphasized the importance of remembering the early days of evangelization to continue growing in the proclamation of the good news.
The jubilee celebrations are set to culminate with a grand mass at the Notre Dame des GrSces Cathedral in Koup©la on Sunday, January 19, 2025.
