KOURITTENGA: The National Council for Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation (CONASUR), with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has enhanced the skills of members of the Provincial Committee for Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation (COPROSUR) in Kourittenga. The training, conducted from December 9 to 10, 2024, in Koupéla, focused on the Multisectoral Initial Rapid Assessment (ERIM) tool aimed at reducing response times in humanitarian crises.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Moctar Ilboudo, the High Commissioner of Kourittenga Province, expressed his approval of the initiative, highlighting the training’s significance for participants. Barthélémy Surnomma Dodibzanga, from the provincial directorate responsible for Humanitarian Action and National Solidarity, reported that the training enabled him to gain proficiency in the ERIM tool. He emphasized the tool’s utility in promptly addressing emerging situations.
Jules Zongo, head of the Studies and Statistics Department at the Pe
rmanent Secretariat of CONASUR, stated that participants are now prepared to conduct evaluations on the ground following disasters. He noted the aim was to equip COPROSUR/Kourittenga members and community relays with the ability to use ERIM to identify impacts and priority needs for effective assistance to victims.
Zongo also urged participants to apply their training to overcome challenges and meet the objectives set by CONASUR, emphasizing the need for clear and precise data collection. ERIM plays a role in humanitarian assistance post-disaster by assessing victims’ needs.
