Kourittenga: Bishop Gabriel Sayaogo Invites Faithful to Actively Engage for a Peaceful Burkina Faso

Kourittenga: The Metropolitan Archbishop of Koupela, Bishop Gabriel Sayaogo, called upon the Catholic faithful of Koupela to actively engage for a peaceful Burkina Faso during a solemn mass celebrating the birth of Christ on the night of Wednesday, December 24, 2025.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the celebration took place with the presence of the faithful, administrative authorities, and representatives of other religious denominations. Liturgical chants and biblical readings highlighted the significance of the Nativity and the message of love and peace that the birth of Jesus Christ conveys.

In his homily, Archbishop Gabriel Sayaogo contextualized Christmas 2025 within the 125th anniversary of the evangelization of Burkina Faso, underscoring the importance of the Church's journey. He remarked on the dual celebration of 125 years of evangelization and 2025 years since the birth of Christ, emphasizing the manifestation of true power in weakness.

The archbishop acknowledged the missionaries who served in Koupela and throughout the country, allowing current generations to partake in this religious event. He expressed his joy in being a part of this historical chain and commended the strong mobilization of the faithful despite the national situation.

Bishop Sayaogo addressed the theme of peace, urging the faithful to commit themselves actively to a peaceful Burkina Faso. He stressed that peace is both a divine gift and a result of human effort, calling on everyone to work towards building peace within themselves, their surroundings, and with others.

Prayers were offered for internally displaced persons, the defense and security forces, and the national authorities, focusing on peace, security, and social cohesion in Burkina Faso.
