Kouls: The Kouls Regional Epidemic Management Committee (CRGE) reviewed the epidemiological situation of the first half of the current year on Friday during its first ordinary session of 2026. Chaired by the governor of the region, in the presence of health, administrative and humanitarian actors, this session made it possible to formulate recommendations to strengthen the health situation of the population.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Dr. Palamanga Ouoba, regional health director of Kouls, stated that the epidemiological situation of the first six months of 2026 is marked by "outbreaks of measles cases in certain districts, notably the Kongoussi health district."

"A response has been underway since the first case appeared, and we are moving towards the end of these outbreaks. Apart from measles, we have no outbreaks in the region. The other diseases are under control," the health official reassured.

According to statistical data, the epidemiological profile of the region remains concerning, with the persistence of communicable diseases such as hepatitis E, meningitis, dengue fever, and malaria, compounded by malnutrition. The situation is exacerbated by population movements linked to the security crisis.

"We urge the population to come to the health centers to receive treatment. Treatment is free," Dr. Ouoba told the affected populations.

In his opening speech, the governor of the region, Colonel-Major Blaise Oudraogo, stressed the need for a collective response, noting that "the fight against epidemics is not solely the responsibility of health professionals."

The region's performance in epidemiological surveillance was generally considered satisfactory. Nevertheless, strengthening community-based surveillance remains a priority, as does the engagement of all stakeholders in responding to health emergencies.

The session also formulated recommendations for strengthening health security measures in the region.
