Kaya: The "D?m? Sira" or the Way of Solidarity campaign was officially launched in Kaya, marking a significant moment for the Kouls region. Placed under the patronage of the governor of the Kouls region and attended by his counterpart from the neighboring Oubri region, the ceremony featured the reception of the symbolic torch of solidarity, a public donation collection, and the distribution of food and non-food items, along with several speeches.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony commenced with the symbolic handover of the torch, representing the region's dedication to fostering solidarity and national unity. Governor Assetou Sy Barry/Traor of the Oubri region, in handing over the torch, expressed hope that "this light will illuminate our steps towards solidarity and national unity."
Colonel-Major Z. Blaise Oudraogo, the governor of the Kouls region, emphasized the critical role of solidarity. "This torch belongs to the entire population of the Kouls," he remarked, urging communities to maintain the spirit of solidarity within their families and communities. He highlighted that solidarity serves as a tool against terrorism and a foundation for resilience amid current challenges.
Representatives from religious and customary communities also praised the initiative, aligning it with their values and urging their communities to demonstrate their faith through acts of solidarity. Solange Kima/Minoungou, president of the special delegation of the commune of Kaya, observed that "D?m? Sira" aims to revive ancestral values where sharing epitomized solidarity, inviting populations to embrace these values for mutual support.
During the event, a total of 625,000 francs was collected to back the initiative. Additionally, food and non-food items were donated to the Oasis orphanage for children in Kaya. Launched nationally on November 15, 2025, the "D?m? Sira" campaign will persist in the Kouls region with parades and street performances in Kaya, including artist and theater group performances, alongside further collections of monetary and in-kind donations. The torch is scheduled to be passed to the Nazinon region on December 4, 2025.
