Djibasso: The subsection of the National Union of Basic Education Workers (SYNATEB) of Djibasso held its first ordinary general assembly for the year 2024 on Saturday, November 23, 2024, in Djibasso. The agenda included discussions on the report of the 9th congress and current issues related to the Basic Education District (CEB) of Djibasso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the general secretary of the SYNATEB subsection, Bassirou Sanwo, provided an overview of the union’s participation in the congress held from October 29 to 30, 2024, in Ouagadougou. Sanwo emphasized the importance of preserving achievements and improving the living conditions of workers. He urged members to avoid using politics as a means for personal gain and stated that the ongoing security crisis should not be exploited for enrichment.

Sanwo called on union members to embrace a trade union culture to enhance credibility in their struggle. During the assembly, the issue of the dismissal of three national education agents from th
e CEB of Djibasso was also discussed. Sanwo noted that the union could not defend actions that were indefensible and highlighted the need for consultation with social partners in the opening and relocation of schools to ensure the smooth functioning of CEB activities.

The general assembly also addressed the deteriorating social fabric within the CEB. Sanwo pointed out that adjusting compensation and family allowances could alleviate difficulties faced by teachers, many of whom have displaced families requiring additional care. He remarked on the slow resolution of social debts at the Boucle du Mouhoun level, with some teachers reporting unresolved claims filed since 2022.

Despite these challenges, Sanwo expressed optimism regarding the settlement of social debts and encouraged teachers to persevere, assuring them that current hardships would eventually become a distant memory.
