Nouna: The High Commissioner of the province of Kossi, Noufo Dembel©, chaired an awareness day on the education of children with disabilities, organized by the provincial directorate in charge of primary education of Kossi. The event took place on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in Nouna, aiming to mobilize the vital forces of the commune to ensure access and retention in school for children with disabilities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, students from the Nouna Provincial High School presented a sketch that emphasized solidarity, mutual support, and adaptability of children with disabilities, showcasing their academic success despite facing obstacles and social constraints. The sketch also highlighted the plight of children with disabilities who remain outside the school system.
The inclusive school for girls of charity featured deaf and mute children, who displayed their artistic talent through a ballet performance under the supervision of Sister Lynda Okparaeke.
Noufo Dembel©, the High Commissioner of Kossi Province, praised the initiative and urged stakeholders to collectively commit to inclusive education. He vowed to enhance social mobilization for this important cause.
Adama Dao, the Director of Basic Education, emphasized that education is a right for all, and schools must be welcoming, respectful, supportive, and successful for every child without distinction. He also acknowledged OCADES for its contributions to developing facilities for children with disabilities, such as access ramps and adapted latrines.
The event concluded with a question and answer session, assessing the audience’s appreciation for the community awareness effort.
