NOUNA, KOSSI — On Thursday, August 29, 2024, a government delegation visited Nouna, Kossi province, led by the Minister in charge of Territorial Administration, Emile Zerbo, along with Pierre Bassinga, Governor of the Boucle du Mouhoun region. The visit aimed to convey a message from President Ibrahim Traoré emphasizing unity among the province’s residents and support for the local defense and security forces (FDS).
According to Burkina Information Agency, the President’s message was twofold: to commend the FDS for their courageous efforts in securing the region and to encourage continued efforts towards the liberation of the territory. Emphasizing the importance of cohesion, Zerbo called on both the FDS and the local population to work together more closely and support each other in daily operations.
The visit to Nouna followed previous stops in Tougan and Dédougou, marking a concerted effort by the government to engage directly with local authorities and the FDS across the province. Zerbo, a native of the Boucle du Mouhoun region, expressed a personal commitment to delivering President Traoré’s message, underscoring the national government’s attention to security issues in the area and its commitment to not overlooking any village.
Bishop Joseph Sama, speaking on behalf of the traditional and religious authorities, highlighted the significance of the visit, seeing it as a symbol of hope for the resilient populations of Kossi. Additionally, Governor Bassinga announced that the government is providing food aid to Nouna to help alleviate the challenges faced by internally displaced persons in the region.
Local traditional and religious leaders expressed their support for the transitional government and offered blessings for the president and his administration, acknowledging their efforts and sacrifices for the nation.
