Koper CEG Triumphs in 6th School Maracana Tournament

Ouagadougou: Koper General Education College (CEG) emerged victorious in the 6th edition of the Koper Schoolchildren's Maracana Tournament, clinching the trophy after a tense final against the Koper Departmental High School. The tournament concluded on Saturday, April 25, 2026, in the presence of prominent figures, including Zakaria Dao, president of the Koper Municipal Special Delegation, Sie Immermane Kam, the tournament promoter, and Francis Renaud Kodjovi, the event's sponsor.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the final was organized by the Koper Sports and Cultural Union (USCK) and marked the peak of the tournament's sporting and cultural events. The match ended in a goalless draw, leading to a penalty shootout where Koper CEG triumphed with a 4-3 victory.

Zakaria Dao, the prefect and president of the special delegation of the Koper commune, opened the ceremony by applauding the efforts of promoter Sie Immermane Kam and the organizers. He acknowledged their dedication to engaging school youth and highlighted the contributions of patron Francis Renaud Kodjovi, emphasizing the importance of these events in fostering fraternity and social cohesion among students and educators.

Mr. Kodjovi expressed his gratitude to the organizers for involving him in this initiative, which he believes strengthens the bonds of fraternity and promotes sports and cultural values in Burkina Faso. He encouraged participants to maintain the spirit of unity and peace.

The event also featured competitions in women's cycling, sprinting, long jump, and various cultural performances. Awards were presented to the top three participants in each discipline, with CEG Koper taking home the maracana tournament trophy, along with numerous other prizes and gifts.
