KONGOUSSI — On July 30, 2024, the faith-based association Wend-Bénédo, operating under the diocese of Ouahigouya and led by Sister Suzanne Ouédraogo, distributed 100 dignity kits to internally displaced women residing in the commune of Kongoussi. Each comprehensive kit includes essential items aimed at improving the daily lives of these women, amidst ongoing displacement challenges.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative was possible through a partnership with the organization SOLIDARITÉ ENTREMONTS ET PEUPLES, which provided financial support. The kits, valued at over 50,000 FCFA each, contain various personal care and household items such as barrels, a bucket, kettles, a travel bag, loincloths, soap, a mosquito net, shoes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, ointment, and underwear. "We were very sensitive when we saw certain women who lack the minimum for their dignity. This is why we approached the association SOLIDARITÉ ENTREMONTS ET PEUPLES which agreed to support us to relieve the women. It's symbolic, but we think this donation can help them temporarily," explained Sister Ouédraogo.
The provincial director in charge of Bam Humanitarian Action, Zoénabou Ouédraogo, lauded the efforts of Wend-Bénédo, describing the donation as significant. "We often see dignity kits handed out to women. But such kits I have never seen. These are very substantial kits and we thank you, as well as your partner EntreMonde, for this great gesture of solidarity," she remarked during the distribution event. She also encouraged the beneficiaries to make the most of the resources provided.
Zara Sawadogo, representing the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude towards the association and reassured the donors that the items would be put to good use. The Wend-Bénédo association, established in 2004, primarily focuses on supporting orphans and vulnerable children, and as of the latest update, is caring for 52 orphans affected by terrorism in the region.
