Bam: The municipality of Kongoussi is advancing its efforts to improve living conditions through key infrastructure projects and resource mobilization. The president of the special delegation (PDS) of Kongoussi, Abel Dayamba, announced on May 26, 2026, that the municipality has successfully fulfilled several commitments made during the 2025 Accountability Day. These achievements primarily span the areas of sanitation and road infrastructure.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Commune's Accountability Day was overseen by the High Commissioner of Bam Province, Karim Ou©draogo, with moderation by the High Commissioner of Sandbondtenga Province, Idrissa Gamsonr©. Mr. Dayamba highlighted the progress, particularly the ongoing construction of about five kilometers of drainage ditches and the development of approximately eleven kilometers of tracks within the neighborhoods of Kongoussi. These projects are part of the Community Project for Recovery and Stabilization of the Sahel (PCRSS).
From a financial perspective, the municipality has surpassed its budgetary expectations in mobilizing its resources. Initially aiming to raise around 300 million FCFA, the municipality successfully generated over 320 million FCFA, achieving more than 105% of its forecast. Mr. Dayamba noted that local resources currently account for about 40% of the revenue, with a strategic objective to increase this to 64%, as outlined in the Recovery Plan.
Mr. Dayamba encouraged residents to continue their efforts in enhancing the contribution of local resources to the development of the commune. For 2026, the municipality plans to focus on supporting displaced villages, which are beginning to resettle amid an improving security situation.
The former mayor of Kongoussi, Daouda Zorom©, commended the special delegation for its achievements despite challenging economic circumstances. Additionally, the provincial president of citizen watch, Noufou Sawadogo, praised the delegation and urged them to address road incivility in the city in the coming year.
