K©n©dougou Commemorates Customs and Traditions Day with Call for Cultural Revival

K©n©dougou: Like other cities in Burkina Faso, the orchard city commemorated the second edition of the Customs and Traditions Day on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Traditional authorities called for a return to the roots and a reminder of their foundations.



According to Burkina Information Agency, in Orodara, capital of the province of K©n©dougou, the commemoration of the second edition of the day of customs and traditions took place on Thursday, May 15, 2025, in the courtyards of the canton and village chiefs in the S¨m¨ tradition. The day’s events began at 9:30 a.m. with notables and customary people visiting the tomb of the first chief of the canton of Orodara, Orodara Sidiki, to request blessings before the ceremony. The activities included performing libations and sacrifices of animals and chickens.



The head of the Orodara canton, His Majesty Boureima Traor©, emphasized the significance of this day dedicated to customs and traditions as an opportunity to honor President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, for its establishment. He encouraged everyone to draw inspiration from traditional values and use the day to educate children on good practices.



The afternoon saw a continuation of commemorative activities at the courtyard of the village chief in sector 4. His Majesty Massa Traor©, chief of the village of Orodara, expressed appreciation for the day’s focus on returning to roots and remembering foundations. He highlighted the rediscovery of customary practices and expressed prayers for the return of peace, acknowledging the role of FDS and VDP in maintaining security.



Christian leaders were notably present, including Father Evariste Sawadogo, parish priest of Our Lady of Africa in Orodara, who extended greetings to followers of the traditional religion and called for reflection on African values as essential for development. Pastor Abbias Coulibaly of the Federation of Evangelical Churches and Missions, K©n©dougou section, endorsed the initiative, advocating for cultural elements that enhance social cohesion and development.



High Commissioner of K©n©dougou province, Sadou Sakira, highlighted the day’s focus on celebrating Burkina Faso’s rich culture and conveyed a message of resilience against terrorism to traditional notables.
