KNA Journalist Bags Prestigious Health Award

Nairobi: Anita Omwenga of the Kenya News Agency (KNA) has been honored with an award for her contributions in the field of health journalism. She received the accolade from Dr. Gladwell Gathecha, Head of the Division of Cancer and NCDs in the Ministry of Health, after being named the winner in the Food Systems (Agriculture, Policy and Safety) Category.

According to Kenya News Agency, Omwenga’s story titled ‘Agroecology in Muranga improves diets, fights chronic diseases’ played a significant role in advancing discussions on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and its connection with equity, access, and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Her work has been recognized for its impact on public health conversations.

The award ceremony took place on December 16, 2025, under the theme ‘Shaping Health Narratives: Celebrating Excellence in Reporting on NCDs and Unhealthy Diets’. Organized by the Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance Kenya Media Awards, the event aimed to recognize journalists who contribute to public dialogue and influence health policies. Dr. Mary Nyamongo, Chair of the NCD Alliance Kenya Board, was present to grace the occasion.
