Kitui County, NCCK Partner to Improve Community Livelihoods

KITUI: Kitui County and the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) have forged a partnership to enhance community services and improve the livelihoods of residents within the county. The two entities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize this collaboration, focusing on various sectors such as water, agriculture, tourism, health, culture, and social services. According to Kenya News Agency, the agreement was signed by Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe and the Head of NCCK, Rev. Canon Chris Kinyajui. The partnership aims to tackle development challenges comprehensively in Kitui County. An inaugural ceremony at the Kitui County Governor's office marked the distribution of 100 water tanks, each with a capacity of 10,000 liters, to schools and churches in Kitui South Sub-County. This initiative addresses water shortages, particularly in remote areas with a long-standing insufficiency in clean water supply. Dr. Malombe stated that the provision of water tanks is part of a broader effo rt to enhance water accessibility for domestic and agricultural purposes. The initiative aligns with the county's objectives to mitigate water scarcity and improve resilience to droughts. Rev. Canon Chris Kinyajui emphasized the importance of collaboration for achieving sustainable development goals. He highlighted NCCK's ongoing climate change programme in Athi Ward, which includes water harvesting initiatives through sand and earth dams, alongside the distribution of tanks to alleviate regional water shortages. The ceremony included participation from development partners such as Rachael Kigame, Country Director for Help a Child, and Edwin Onyancha from Dorcas Africa AID International. Their involvement underscores a multi-stakeholder approach to advancing community development in Kitui. Established in 1913, the NCCK has a longstanding history of contributing to social development in Kenya. Its collaboration with the Kitui County Government aims to provide tangible benefits, enhancing water access and fo stering sustainable development in Kitui South and the broader region.
