KISUMU - Kisumu County has taken significant steps to improve waste management by procuring new equipment, including 140 bins and over 20 skip loaders, to be distributed throughout the city for more efficient waste collection.
According to Kenya News Agency, who spoke at the program's launch, the initiative is designed to curb the rampant improper disposal of waste and to foster job opportunities for local youth. Wanga emphasized the importance of utilizing these new facilities properly and warned that residents who continue to dispose of waste carelessly will face arrest and prosecution.
Additionally, Wanga outlined a partnership-based waste-to-wealth program aimed at converting collected waste from the Kasese dumpsite into reusable products to generate income. This initiative is part of a broader environmental effort that includes designating every 10th of the month as a tree planting and cleaning day, an event that Wanga encouraged all residents to participate in enthusiastically.
