Nairobi: Kisii County will be hosting the 14th edition of Water Companies Sports Organization (WASCO) games in August this year. This comes after officials from the Murang’a Water and Sanitation Company (MUWASCO), who hosted the games last year, handed over the chain of office to the Gusii Water and Sanitation Company (GWASCO) and Kisii County government officials.
According to Kenya News Agency, during the handover ceremony at Gusii Stadium in Kisii town, Governor Simba Arati extended his appreciation to his Murang’a counterpart, Irungu Kang’ata, for successfully hosting the WASCO games last year. The Governor noted the games are not just about competition but also serve as a platform for fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and enhancing service delivery in the water sector.
Governor Arati emphasized the importance of innovative solutions for sustainable water management, stating, “Water is life, and as leaders in this sector, we must continue to champion innovative solutions for sustainable water management. These games remind us of the critical role we play in ensuring access to clean and safe water for all.”
The Speaker of the Kisii County Assembly, Philip Nyanumba, urged the WASCO leadership to work towards increasing water coverage in Kisii, reiterating that access to clean water was a fundamental necessity. Murang’a County was represented by the County Executive Committee Member for Water, Mary Magochi, who spoke on behalf of Governor Kang’ata.
Ms. Magochi expressed her gratitude for the recognition of Murang’a’s efforts in hosting the WASCO games and acknowledged the vital role played by WASCO, the Water Services Providers Association (WASPA), MUWASCO, and other partners in ensuring successful water service delivery. “We appreciate the commitment and dedication of all stakeholders in the water sector. Through such collaborations, we can strengthen service delivery and ensure sustainable water management for all communities,” she remarked.
