Kirinyaga: The Kirinyaga County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee (CICMC) has embarked on an overview and review of the current status of various ongoing projects in the area. The committee, chaired by County Commissioner Hussein Allasow and comprised of all heads of departments at the county level, will be highlighting challenges and proposing possible solutions to ensure timely completion of road projects under the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), and other ongoing projects in housing, irrigation, water, health, and education sectors.

According to Kenya News Agency, the team has visited the affordable housing project in Gichugu, Kirinyaga East sub-county, which is at 85% completion. This project, a flagship of the Kenya Kwanza administration, has witnessed significant progress. Speaking at the construction site, County Commissioner Allasow noted that the government’s goal of providing affordable and decent
houses has been realized in Kirinyaga, along with the creation of job opportunities. This program, launched by President William Ruto in August 2023, comprises 110 units, including 3-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and studio rooms.

Allasow highlighted the advancements made in the national government’s affordable housing project, pointing out two ongoing projects in Kirinyaga County. The project in Kianyaga is 85% complete, while the National Housing Corporation project in Kerugoya stands at 10% completion. In addition to job creation, these projects have benefitted locals who supply raw materials. He urged residents to access the Bomayangu platform at www.bomayangu.go.ke to apply for the units, as all citizens above 18 years are eligible to get a house of their choice.

Francis Wambugu, the project contractor, stated that the affordable housing program has succeeded, as evidenced by the work done, and has helped the 300 workers improve their skills. Wambugu expressed optimism that the second phase of the project would
expand opportunities and alleviate poverty within the area. He anticipates handing over the project by January 2025, noting that prevailing weather conditions, especially ongoing rain, have delayed painting works.

Meanwhile, the county coordination committee will be assessing other projects on a monthly basis to ensure prompt delivery of quality projects that meet the set standards.
