Kirinyaga Central Schools to Receive Water Tanks to Improve Hygiene and Health

KIRINYAGA: Twenty-seven secondary schools in Kirinyaga Central will soon receive water tanks to improve water supply and promote hygiene. The initiative, spearheaded by Hon. Joseph Gachoki Gitari, aims to alleviate water scarcity by providing 10,000-litre tanks and rooftop gutters for rainwater collection.

According to Kenya News Agency, the distribution of water tanks was announced during a function at the NG-CDF offices, with Hon. Gachoki emphasizing the project’s role in reducing water wastage and saving costs. By ensuring a steady water supply, schools can maintain cleanliness and curb diseases such as kwashiorkor and diarrhea, allowing them to concentrate on educational priorities.

Hon. Gachoki urged patience from schools not immediately benefiting from the initiative, assuring them of inclusion in the next fiscal year. He stressed that the tanks would serve as central storage points, allowing schools to treat and store water from suppliers and local projects.

Principal Emilio Njeru of Kiandieri Secon
dary School praised the project, highlighting its impact on school hygiene and cost-saving measures. Njeru noted the challenges faced due to untreated water from local projects and expressed confidence that the tanks would enable schools to provide clean water consistently.

Hon. Gachoki also endorsed the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), citing its positive societal impact. He mentioned the need for new legislation to secure its future, as its current status requires the President’s approval.
