KILGORIS, Kenya – A court in Kilgoris, Trans Mara West Sub-county, has granted an additional 21 days for police to investigate the murder of two senior prison officers. The extension follows a request by the Prosecution Counsel for more time to delve into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Inspector Patrick Mukunyi Kuya and Senior Sergeant Daniel Nairimo.

According to Kenya News Agency, Senior Resident Magistrate Cyprian Waswa approved the extension after hearing the application from the prosecution. The case concerns the tragic incident that occurred on March 14 in Metinkuar village, where the two officers were allegedly killed during a confrontation linked to a Sacco-related issue. They had traveled from Nairobi to address this matter with a retired colleague, Pius Lemiso Ndiwa, who is accused of defaulting on a loan and is currently evading capture.

The investigation has led to the arrest of five individuals: Emmanuel Lemashon, Edwin Taleng’o, Elizabeth Tiptip, Mark Ledama, and Malvin Shonimeu. Despite these arrests, the primary suspect, Ndiwa, remains at large. The officers, who were in civilian clothes at the time of the attack, were reportedly mistaken for intruders by Ndiwa’s family, leading to their violent demise at the hands of Ndiwa’s sons using arrows and machetes.

The community and the police force await further developments as investigators utilize the additional time to uncover more details about this heinous crime and attempt to bring all involved to justice.
