Kiel: An 81-year-old man was found dead, and two others sustained injuries following a fire that erupted in an apartment situated above a shopping center in the city center of Kiel, northern Germany, on Saturday evening.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the man was discovered during a firefighting rescue operation. The two individuals who were injured suffered minor smoke inhalation and received treatment at the scene, as reported by the Kiel police and cited by local media Kieler Nachrichten.
A police spokesperson stated that emergency services were alerted at approximately 8:10 p.m. local time (1910 GMT) after residents heard cries for help and observed smoke emanating from the apartment. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze. The affected shopping center is part of a larger complex that includes arcades, offices, and apartments.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, and an investigation is currently underway.
