KISUMU – The Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) women’s team emerged victorious in the volleyball finals against the County Assemblies Sports Association (CASA-A) team, clinching a 3-0 win at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Ground on Wednesday.
According to Kenya News Agency, KICOSCA dominated the East Africa Local Authorities Sports and Cultural Association (EALASCA) game with set scores of 25-23, 25-24, and 25-22 respectively.
Team captain Grace Kimeli, in a post-match interview with the Kenya News Agency (KNA), attributed their success to exceptional teamwork and focus. Kimeli highlighted the team’s late start to their training camp but noted their ability to overcome the experienced CASA ladies in a decisive match.
In addition to volleyball, the Kenyan teams demonstrated their prowess in other sports during the EALASCA games. The netball finals saw Kenya overpower Uganda with a commanding 35-9 victory. Harriet Vike Odera, a player and coordinator for the Kenyan team, reflected on the win as a continuation of their strong performance, following a previous 24-12 win. Odera also mentioned the team’s effective preparation in Nakuru and Kakamega for the EALASCA games.
The tournament also featured a local authority netball final, where KICOSCA 1 defeated KICOSCA 2 with a score of 21-11. Furthermore, both KICOSCA men and women teams secured the first position in the Tug-of-War, leaving CASA and Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) to settle for the runners-up and third-place positions, respectively.
The 23rd EALASCA games, which began on January 26th, were held under the theme “Building Synergies Through Sports and Culture,” showcasing the spirit of unity and competition among East African local authorities through sports and cultural activities.
