Kiambu County Celebrates Mashujaa Day with a Focus on Development and Unity

Kiambu: Mashujaa Day celebrations were held today at HGM Ting’ang’a Primary School in Kiambu County, led by Senior Deputy County Commissioner Titus M. Macharia, featuring speeches that emphasized development achievements and the unity of Kenyan citizens.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Mashujaa Day, a national holiday observed on October 20th, honors those who contributed to Kenya’s independence and those who have made positive contributions in the post-independence era. The main national event took place in Kwale County, led by President William Samoei Ruto, while the local Kiambu event featured a speech read by Municipal Manager John Njoroge on behalf of Governor Paul Kimani Wamatangi.

Governor Wamatangi highlighted the progress his administration has made in various sectors since taking office, including health, education, agriculture, and tourism. He announced his commitment to enhancing modern and affordable housing in collaboration with the national government and emphasized the ‘Making Kiambu Gre
at Again’ campaign, which aims to ensure no sector is overlooked.

The governor reported that his administration allocated sh 600 million as a county development fund to be distributed among the 60 wards. In education, Wamatangi’s ‘Leave No Child Behind’ initiative has already constructed 109 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centers, with plans to complete centers in all 524 primary schools in the county by 2026. He also noted the implementation of a comprehensive feeding program benefiting over 39,000 ECDE students and a significant increase in the bursary fund to sh 500 million, aiding over 100,000 students across sub-counties.

In healthcare, Wamatangi’s administration has renovated Level 3 and Level 4 hospitals and built 16 new Level 3 hospitals. The installation of modern health equipment and the implementation of a health management information system program were also key achievements mentioned to improve accountability and service delivery in the health sector.

Mr. T.M. Macharia, reading President Ruto’s speech, urged elected leaders to serve diligently and foster unity among Kenyans, transcending ethnic or tribal divisions.
