Kiambu County, in its endeavor to enhance forest cover, has successfully planted over seven million trees. This achievement follows the ‘jaza miti’ Programme initiated last December by President Dr. William Ruto. The project aims to increase Kenya’s forest cover by 15 billion trees by 2032.
According to Kenya News Agency, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Zachariah Njeru, this initiative is a key strategy in combating climate change and preserving biodiversity. The tree planting drive, which took place at Nyamweru forest in Lari, Limuru, underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the wider issues of global warming. Njeru highlighted the importance of not only planting but also nurturing these trees to maturity to ensure their ecological benefits are realized.
