Khwisero: Three villages in Khwisero Constituency have completed the wayleave signing process, setting the stage for the commencement of last-mile electricity connection under the rural electrification program. Residents of Ekonjero, Emakuche, and Emukhunzulu signed the wayleave consent forms granting legal access for installation of electricity infrastructure on the private land.
According to Kenya News Agency, Area MP Christopher Aseka said the move clears a major administrative hurdle ahead of physical construction works. Aseka, while speaking in his constituency yesterday, welcomed the progress and called it a significant milestone in the constituency’s energy access agenda. “This marks another important step in our broader agenda to ensure that no village in Khwisero is left behind,” he said.
Aseka stated that the exercise is set to continue as he remains committed to connecting all mapped areas across the constituency to the power grid. The wayleave process is a mandatory requirement for public utilities seeking to lay electricity lines, water pipes, or telecommunication infrastructure through privately owned land.
The legislator mentioned that the construction team is now ready to begin site work in the cleared villages, with priority given to underserved and previously off-grid communities. The MP noted that the broader electrification initiative aims to improve education, healthcare, and local business operations by providing stable access to electricity in rural households and institutions.
More villages are expected to be reached in the coming phases of the Wayleave mobilization as Khwisero pushes forward with its commitment to full electrification.
