KHORIXAS: The Khorixas Town Council is making strides in waste management with plans to purchase a tipper truck using the 2024 financial year budget, aiming to enhance the town’s cleanliness and hygiene.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Rala //Gowaseb, the Head of Maintenance for the town council, shared in an interview that the acquisition of the tipper truck is a significant step towards ensuring effective waste management in Khorixas. The need for improved waste management arose after a massive clean-up effort three months ago, which cost over N.dollars 100,000 but was hindered by residents’ lack of responsibility regarding waste disposal.

//Gowaseb highlighted the council’s dedication to addressing the waste issue, with a budget allocation of N.dollars 1.5 million earmarked for the purchase of the truck. The necessary quotations have been sent to the Ministry of Finance, and the payment process is currently in progress.

In his appeal to the residents, //Gowaseb emphasized the importance of the initiative, urging locals to embrace the theme ‘My Waste, My Responsibility.’ He noted that keeping properties clean is vital not only for environmental health but also for disease prevention. The council hopes that these efforts will promote a culture of accountability among residents and enhance Khorixas’s overall sanitation and aesthetic value.
