WINDHOEK — The Khomas Regional Council (KRC) has completed significant upgrades to two local clinics, Hakahana and Donkerhoek, which were officially handed over to the Ministry of Health and Social Services on Wednesday. The council also donated a fully equipped ambulance, bolstering healthcare services in the Windhoek Rural Constituency.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the renovations are part of the council’s minor capital projects initiative, totaling an investment of N.dollars 7.5 million. The upgrades included the renovation of a doctor’s consulting room and a community hall, construction of a pharmacy, installation of air-conditioning, and the addition of new furniture and equipment for the doctor’s consulting rooms.

Health Minister Kalumbi Shangula, who received the renovated facilities and the ambulance, valued at N.dollars 1.3 million, emphasized the impact these improvements will have on healthcare delivery in the affected areas. The new infrastructure, including the doctor’s consulting rooms and the pharmacy, aims to provide comprehensive and improved health services to the local communities.

The event also highlighted the procurement of essential medical equipment by the regional council, including electro-cardiograms, sonar machines, and manual defibrillators, further enhancing the capability of healthcare providers in Hakahana and Donkerhoek. Minister Shangula praised the initiative as a reflection of effective collaboration between central and regional government entities, aimed at creating a more responsive and accessible healthcare system for Namibia’s growing population.
