Khamuseb Warns Public Servants Against Government Resource Misuse

Windhoek: Otjozondjupa Governor, John ||Khamuseb, on Monday cautioned public servants about the misuse of government resources, highlighting that the wastage of water and electricity, along with poor maintenance, imposes an unnecessary financial burden on the State. According to Namibia Press Agency, ||Khamuseb addressed this issue during his State of the Region Address (SORA) at a special meeting of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council in Otjiwarongo. He expressed concern over government institutions frequently leaving taps running and lights on without necessity, leading to inflated utility bills for government offices. He noted that such wastage has been observed at several settlement offices managed by the Otjozondjupa Regional Council. The governor emphasized that the misuse of government resources, along with inadequate maintenance of infrastructure and non-payment of municipal service accounts, has led to NamWater disconnecting water supplies to settlements like Kalkfeld, Coblenz, Okondjatu, Okandjira, Okamatapati, Okatjoruu, Gam, and Tsumkwe, with Kombat being the only settlement spared from water disconnections this year. "I therefore direct that immediate measures be implemented to enforce strict control of water and electricity usage, as well as the timely payment of these bills," ||Khamuseb stated. He also advocated for the introduction of routine maintenance programs across all government facilities, particularly at settlement offices under the regional council. ||Khamuseb underscored the importance of settlement offices in planning, coordinating, and implementing development projects aimed at enhancing the living conditions of rural communities. He stressed the necessity for these offices to ensure that residents have uninterrupted access to essential government services.
