Khamuseb Encourages Local Food Production to Honor Nujoma

Otjiwarongo: Otjozondjupa Governor, John ||Khamuseb, has urged residents of the region to focus on planting more fruit trees and consuming locally produced food to honor the legacy of the late Founding President, Sam Nujoma. ||Khamuseb made these remarks during a tree planting event organized by his office at the newly established orchard at Monica Geingos Senior Secondary School (SSS) in Otjiwarongo. The event was held in remembrance of Nujoma's birthday, which falls on 12 May.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the governor emphasized Nujoma's vision of achieving food security in Namibia, which included having sufficient fruits available nationwide. To support this vision, ||Khamuseb donated and led the initiative to plant 15 fruit tree seedlings at the new orchard. He stated that this was the beginning of commemorating Nujoma's passion for tree planting, a tribute to the founding president who passed away on 8 February 2025.

||Khamuseb expressed hopes that the initiative, which began modestly, would expand in the future. He encouraged the school to nurture the 15 mango, guava, and grape trees, thereby contributing to Nujoma's desire for widespread tree planting. Education Director of Otjozondjupa, Gerhard Ndafenongo, participated by planting a mango tree and urged learners across the region to plant more trees in honor of Nujoma's dream.

Monica Geingos SSS Principal, Peacock Mbakera, committed to ensuring the longevity of the orchard by dedicating classes to the care of the newly planted trees. He emphasized the importance of the orchard in fulfilling Nujoma's wish for food abundance and tree proliferation throughout the country. Science teacher Selma Theophilus was tasked with assigning learners to maintain the new plants daily.
