The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) conducted a sensitization exercise in Eldoret town for film producers on production of clean content. The aim of KFCB is to promote a countrywide campaign advocating for the production and consumption of clean content and the Board’s efforts to clean the airwaves of dirty and harmful content. Speaking during the sensitization exercise, Uasin Gishu KFCB Regional Manager Boniventure Kioko said that the Board is committed to protecting the children from exposure to harmful content. He urged film makers to produce and promote films and media content that reflect our culture and values of our society. ‘Parents and guardians should be at the forefront of monitoring content consumed by children on Radio, TV and the internet,’ said Kioko. He added that the regulations provided by KFCB aims at providing a more facilitative environment for filmmakers by easing their way of doing business in order for them to use film to contribute towards employment and creating job opportunities. Kioko further noted that the KFCB is doing quite a lot to improve on its effectiveness in service delivery so that there is more mentoring, nurturing and inspiring youths and upcoming artists in the film industry. He further encouraged the youth to take advantage of opportunities that come with programs and projects organized by KFCB. ‘We are working with different groups from North Rift to mitigate banditry in areas like Turkana, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet to champion and encourage youth to venture into using their talents as an alternative for economic empowerment as well as a way of reducing disputes and banditry,’ noted Kioko.
