KERICHO—Over 2,000 students from Kericho Township Technical and Vocational College participated in a vibrant celebration of their annual cultural day, aimed at showcasing Kenya’s rich cultural heritage through performances and exhibitions. The event featured traditional dances, songs, cultural attire, and a variety of Kenyan traditional foods.
According to Kenya News Agency, the college actively promotes cultural diversity, which is well represented within its student body, to foster an inclusive and harmonious educational environment. He noted that the cultural day serves as a platform for students from different backgrounds, including those from Machakos, Mombasa, Lamu, Bungoma, Nyeri, Meru, Kisii, Kisumu, Narok, and neighboring counties, to come together and share their cultural traditions.
Duncan Cheruiyot, the president of the student body, emphasized the significance of the event in promoting unity and understanding among the students. He described the cultural day as an essential opportunity for students to celebrate the multicultural makeup of their community, reinforcing the sense of belonging to one family despite diverse backgrounds.
This year’s cultural day marks the second such event at the institution, following the inaugural celebration in 2021. Kericho Township TVET College, situated in Ainamoi sub-county, is part of the government’s initiative to establish a vocational college in every constituency, with its construction beginning in 2015 and completing in 2019 through joint funding from the government and the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
