Kericho: Kericho County Commissioner Mr. Gilbert Kitiyo has called on local residents to register for the new government medical cover, the Social Health Authority (SHA), highlighting its comprehensive benefits during the Mashujaa Day Celebrations at Kedowa Grounds in Kipkelion East Sub-County. The SHA aims to provide integrated health services at various levels, ensuring a healthier future for the county’s population.
According to Kenya News Agency, Mr. Kitiyo emphasized the importance of the SHA which offers emergency services, critical care, and chronic illness management, among others. He tasked local Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs with spreading awareness about SHA’s benefits. The commissioner also touched upon various safety and developmental initiatives, including a directive to Grade Six candidates about the upcoming Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), which will proceed without the presence of security officers.
In addition to healthcare, Mr. Kitiyo announced the availability of tree se
edlings for local planting, aligning with the national goal of planting 15 billion trees to combat climate change. He also urged motorists and highway traders to adhere to safety norms to prevent accidents.
The event also saw contributions from Kericho County Governor Dr. Eric Mutai, who highlighted local heroes of the freedom struggle and celebrated notable athletes from the region. Governor Mutai outlined upcoming health projects including a multi-story emergency unit and a modern oncology center, promising to transform Kericho into a health hub.
Kipkelion East Legislator Joseph Cherorot announced the disbursement of educational bursaries and the distribution of tree seedlings to schools, further supporting local education and environmental efforts.
